QuickFire® connection system offers contractors fast and efficient connections

Have you ever found yourself covered in mud attempting to get the threads of a heavy reamer spun onto the drill string? It can be miserable — 12 to 15 turns of the tool and a lot of attention to detail so you don’t accidentally cross-thread the connection. It’s certainly not one of the highlights of working in directional drilling.

What if there was a better way? One that maximizes safety and efficiency when you’re down in the mud changing out your tooling. The Vermeer QuickFire® connection system makes swapping out tooling fast and secure.

What makes the QuickFire system different

It only takes four turns to thread the non-torqued QuickFire system onto a drill housing. By threading in fewer turns, the QuickFire system minimizes the time that you spend in the mud – maximizing the time you spend drilling.

Its course tapered, robust thread profile helps prevent cross threading, stripping and damaging the threads. It allows you to place the threads deeper into the starter rod before you need to start spinning. After the threads are nearly tight, you just need to slip the collar over the top of the connection and torque the collar bolt.

To ensure the tooling connection holds up in your harsh working conditions, a patented stress-release groove and large dual lands designed to transfer bending loads away from the thread profile was added. The QuickFire system also has a robust o-ring that maximizes fluid delivery to the tool. That heavy duty o-ring is machined at Vermeer to minimize worry about it pinching or breaking – especially as you’re threading it on.

These features create a strong connection which can help ease your mind and maximize your productivity.

Converting to the QuickFire system

QuickFire system components are available in multiple sizes for drilling rigs. Vermeer also offers weld-on and weld-over connection options to cost-effectively convert existing tooling to the QuickFire system. Not sure what QuickFire system would work on your rig?
